As anyone out there, you surely care about the health and beauty of your hair and skin, and you wouldn’t do anything to harm either of them. But investing in a lot of products and treatments isn’t enough when other factors are influencing the beauty of your hair and skin. The “factor” that we are going to talk about in this article is your pillow. You might think of the pillow only as a gateway to your sleep, but in reality, it could be the number 1 enemy of your hair and skin as well. If you’re interested in this subject, and you want to find out if your pillow is actually ruining your hair and skin, continue to read our article.

How your hair is affected by your pillow

Your significant other might find your bed head appealing, but waking up with bed head isn’t so great, especially when you’re in a hurry to leave for work. The bed head is caused by how your hair interacts with your pillow when you sleep. If you have a cotton pillowcase, you will definitely have messy and frizzy hair in the morning. The best solution is to upgrade to a satin or silk pillowcase. These types of pillowcases allow your hair to slide more easily when you sleep. Therefore, your hair will look better when you wake up as well.

When you wake up in the morning and you see that your pillowcase is covered in loose strands, your first thought might be that your hair broke due to the shampoo that you use, or who knows what other reason. In reality, your pillowcase is more likely to be the enemy of your hair. The rough cotton pillowcase that you sleep on causes hair breakage by damaging and thinning your hair strands. To avoid having this problem, go with a satin or silk pillowcase because it is more gentle on your hair and it allows the hair to slide with ease.

Last but not least, the pillow that you lay your head on at night can even cause your hair to become very dry. Of course, this happens only if you use a cotton pillow. Instead of allowing your pillow to zap the moisture from your hair, change it with a pillow that has a silk pillowcase. Silk is the only fabric that will lock in the moisture and leave your hair looking great.

How your skin is affected by your pillow

Pillows that have cotton pillowcases soak up a lot of oil and dirt from your skin. If you don’t make sure that you change the pillowcase at least once per week, you will clog up your pores with the dirt that the pillowcase is retaining. This will inevitably lead to the appearance of acne, and your skin will look unpleasant and unappealing. Therefore, if you want to avoid acne related issues, make sure that you change the pillowcase at least 1-2 times per week. Also, you should go with a bamboo pillow because it will provide a cool and hygienic surface to sleep on, ensuring that dirt and oil won’t be retained as easily.

Unfortunately, a poor quality pillow can lead to the appearance of wrinkles. A pillow that has a cotton pillowcase will inevitably cause wrinkles to appear because of the rough fabric that you lay your face on. The best thing to do in order to delay the appearance of wrinkles as much as possible is to change this rough fabric for a bamboo pillow or a pillow that has a satin pillowcase.

If you lay your head on a hot surface that doesn’t have any breathability, you will cause acne to appear, and your face will look tired and old. To prevent this from happening, you should go with bamboo pillows. They offer a cool and breathable surface that ensures the protection of your skin. Also, they help you sleep better at night, especially during the warm seasons.
